The Dark Universe was a planned series of monster films that were being developed and distributed by Universal Pictures. The Dark Universe was meant to serve as rebooted versions of past monster films that take place in a shared universe. The franchise launched with multiple false starts such as Van Helsing, The Wolfman and Dracula Untold. The Mummy intended as the fourth launch effort failed and the entire concept was shelved until Universal Studios' 2025 revamp reintroduced Dark Universe as the portal for its classic monsters.
